TSMIT increase

On 27 April 2023, the Minister for Home Affairs announced a TSMIT increase.

TSMIT is imposed as a requirement for the following visas:

TSMIT is the minimum salary that must be paid to a sponsored employee to obtain a temporary skilled visa in Australia.

Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT) increase

From 01 July 2023, the TSMIT will increase from the existing $53,900 to $70,000.

How will this increase affect sponsored workers?

  1. Existing sponsored workers will not be affected. However, employers are reminded of their sponsorship obligation to ensure the salary matches the current market salary.
  2. This will also not affect any nomination applications lodged but not finally determined before 01 July 2023. Applications lodged before 01 July 2023, will have the old TSMIT ($53,900) requirement retained.

Further announcements will come as these changes are implemented. Keep an eye out on our website for immediate updates. If you wish to apply for a visa, you should book a consultation with a lawyer who specializes in immigration law to find out whether it is best for you to apply now before the changes apply after 01 July 2023.
